I doubt it your mother misunderstood and should have clarified what a total hysterectomy means. It just means that the Cervix was removed with the Uterus. She wrongly reported to future doctors about the ovaries and should have left it to her medical records to tell them about the procedure as she didn't understand what she was reporting.
