How bad do you think bacterial vaginosis could be if left untreated for six months to a year?

I know that's really gross, but I honestly had no idea what it was...and just kind of ignored it, not knowing at all that it was anything bad, especially since my mom and I don't really discuss things like that (she's a traditional Roman Catholic from a conservative foreign country). Anyway, I know it's not usually a really terrible thing, but can cause damage to the fallopian tubes. How bad can this damage be? I'm seeing the gynecologist on Monday, so that's good, but yeah, still pretty worried about this... Would there be any signs of it progressing to a worse stage? So yeah, freaking out, ha. Sorry this is so long. Just worried because I'm sure people usually get things like this checked out fairly soon, but I simply thought my body was changing in a way that I really didn't like. Definitely proof that we should be more informed about our own bodies. Thank you. :)
